Update: Banking crisis lawyer Charles Randell confirmed as next FCA chairman

Former Slaughter and May lawyer Charles Randell, who advised ministers on the 2008 financial crisis, has been confirmed as the next chairman of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Randell, who replaces outgoing chairman John Griffith-Jones, will take up the role on 1 April 2018 and is scheduled to serve a five-year term. Commenting on the appointment, FCA chief executive Andrew Bailey said Randell's experience of regulation "both during the financial crisis and more recently as a member of the Prudential Regulation Committee" gives him a "strong understanding of the challenges that the FCA faces".
