James Calder, research director at City Asset Management, has revealed the top five niche investments he holds in his portfolios.

Although many multi-manager prefer to steer clear of investment trusts, structured products and smaller, unknown fund, Calder (pictured) sees a place in the portfolios for these alternative vehicles. Below, he lists his five favourite weird and wonderful investment ideas. Freehold Income Authorised fund The is an open-ended fund investing in ground rents, run by Time Investments.
