Franklin Templeton has appointed former GAM Asian equity fund manager Michael Lai as lead manager on its Luxembourg FTIF-Templeton China fund, with current manager Eddie Chow set for retirement.
Lai, who has also been hired as a senior vice president and portfolio manager on other Chinese equities mandates, will lead the China fund with assistance from portfolio manager Yu-Jen Shih, who joined alongside Jason Zhu as deputy director of research in December. The former manager of GAM Star China Equity and GAM Star Asian Equity, Lai left the firm in March after more than two decades.
