Janus Henderson Investors has appointed Columbia Threadneedle's global fixed income head Jim Cielinski, while head of global credit Stephen Thariyan is leaving amid a restructuring of the Janus Henderson team.

Based in London and joining on 1 November, Cielinski will be responsible for overseeing the growth of the firm's fixed income team bringing over 30 years' experience in the industry.

Cielinski joined Columbia Threadneedle in 2010 from Goldman Sachs Asset Management where he served as managing director and head of credit, managing credit exposures across all investment grade portfolios.

He has also held a number of other roles including fixed income head for the Utah Retirement Systems, assistant manager of taxable fixed income at Brown Brothers Harriman and an equity portfolio manager at First Security Investment Management.

Janus Henderson confirmed the team had been through a restructuring following the merger of Janus Capital and Henderson Global Investors, and that head of global credit Thariyan would be leaving the firm next March.

He has worked at Henderson since 2007, and also serves as a co-manager on the £360m Henderson Credit Alpha fund alongside Tom Ross and the group's Sterling Bond fund with Philip Payne.

Meanwhile, Columbia Threadneedle has replaced Cielinski by promoting his deputy Colin Lundgren, who has been with the firm for 31 years and will report to the firm's CIO Colin Moore.

Lundgren was previously deputy global head and US fixed income head, responsible for overseeing the management of $136bn in assets.

Moore said: "We expect a very smooth transition given Colin's deep and long involvement with our fixed income investment teams."
